Our Terms and Conditions of Hire

1. Availability
Cycle hire is subject to availability.

2. Use of Equipment
All bicycles are hired and ridden at the hirer’s own risk. By entering into the hire agreement, the hirer accepts responsibility for their own safety and for the safe and considerate use of the equipment.

3. Liability
The hirer is responsible for any accident, injury, or damage caused by their actions while using the equipment. Personal insurance is not included, and we recommend obtaining suitable cover before the hire period.

4. Condition of Equipment
The hirer must inspect the bicycle before accepting it. By taking the bicycle, the hirer confirms it is in satisfactory and roadworthy condition. Any existing marks or defects must be recorded on the hire agreement prior to departure.

5. Care of Equipment
The hirer is responsible for returning all bicycles and accessories in the same condition as at the start of the hire period, allowing for fair wear and tear.

6. Payment
The full hire fee must be paid in advance or at the time of booking.

7. Loss, Theft, or Damage
All bicycles and equipment remain the property of Southwold Cycle Hire. If equipment is not returned, or is damaged beyond repair, we reserve the right to charge the hirer the full replacement cost and any associated losses. Helmets and locks are included in the hire fee. Loss or damage to accessories may incur additional charges.

8. Cycling Conduct
Hirers must cycle responsibly, respect other road and path users, and protect the natural environment. All cyclists must follow the Highway Code, including the “Extra Rules for Cyclists” (Rules 187–211). Unsafe or discourteous behaviour may result in the equipment being repossessed without refund.

9. Helmets, Locks & Security
We recommend wearing helmets at all times. Bicycles must be locked whenever left unattended. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult (18+). Cycles should be secured to a permanent fixture using the lock provided, ensuring the frame and front wheel are included. Theft of an unlocked or improperly secured bicycle will be the hirer’s responsibility and may result in a charge for replacement of the bicycle and accessories.

10. Right to Refuse Hire
Southwold Cycle Hire reserves the right to refuse hire to any individual for any reason, including situations where behaviour towards our staff is inappropriate or discourteous.

11. Repairs & Replacements
We reserve the right to charge for repairs or replacements where damage has occurred during the hire period.

12. Hirer Competence & Health
The hirer must be in good health and have eyesight equivalent to the standard required for a road driving test. The hirer must not suffer from any condition likely to impair safe control of the bicycle. The hirer must not undertake manoeuvres beyond their skill level or the capability of the bicycle.

13. Mechanical Issues
In the event of a mechanical failure (excluding punctures) where the hirer cannot return the bicycle to the collection point, the hirer should secure the bicycle and contact us on 07946 338097. We will endeavour to retrieve or repair the bicycle. If a fault occurs, please contact us as soon as practicable. If the issue cannot be resolved and no replacement bicycle is available, the hirer may return all bicycles and receive a refund for the unused portion of the hire period.

14. Cancellations Cancellations made at least 24 hours before the hire start time will receive a full refund.
